Dental Dog Treats
You may or may not be aware,
Greenies® the original smart-treat, has been receiving some unwarranted adverse
publicity in the USA of late.
We as distributors and advocates of
the product in Australia want to ease your mind as to the rumours which have
been circulating, primarily via a spate of chain emails.
To our knowledge, there have been no
reported incidents of Greenies® causing harm to any dog in Australia.
The Greenies® products have NOT been recalled. Greenies® are
not made from foam or polystyrene and are totally free from plastic or inert
materials.
Background
The media hype started by a recent
story aired in the USA on Seattle’s KIRO TV that discussed some of the risks of
dog treats. Greenies® was featured in
this story because unfortunately, Beau, a bernese mountain dog, ingested a
large chunk of a Greenies® bone without chewing it. The chunk was successfully removed and Beau recovered.
Since their introduction in 1998,
Greenies® have helped clean the teeth and freshen the breath of millions of
dogs all over the world. In fact, over
600 million Greenies® have been sold! The most important part of the USA story
was that ALL dog treats and chews can make a pet sick. It is important that
owners monitor their pets when feeding them.
VOHC Seal
Greenies® is the only edible treat in Australia which has
been endorsed by the Veterinary Oral Health Council for the reduction of plaque
and tartar. Products are awarded the VOHC Seal of Acceptance following review
of data from trials conducted according to strict VOHC protocols.
